Much to coachie's and frowner's chagrin, the Cincinnati Bengals didn't feel like competing last night and waved the white flag so violently that they resembled cousins with recessive genes. While the Bengal defense played an extremely vanilla game -no blitzes or exotic looks, why were so many runs made up the middle in the first half? And why did no Cincy receiver beside Coles show up? Do they realize it'll be cold and unpleasant on the field for their rematch? And was there any doubt a matchup of a possession receiver and shutdown corner eight years his junior would be a mismatch?

I wasn't going to freeze my coups off for an exhibition game, no matter how celebratory. But I was glad to see a lot of bodies in the stadium on TV last night.
And speaking of futures, I'm starting to get a feel for some teams. The Twins made me sweat last year, but the AL Central is so bad that I might go back to the well for them -and maybe a Royals under. Of course, my go-to is Mets under.

Yeah, I was kind of getting at the exact opposite of what you think I was getting at.
It's also the opposite of the Yankees playing for people like Torre's brother, stories that aren't bad in and of themselves but just get pummeled by the media. This is just tragic, pure and simple. My point is that if the Jets won the Super Bowl, would the owner even enjoy it? That's sad.
Would he even get to enjoy it, is what I mean.
Don't care what the point is: there's no need to tie someone's death to the history of a team playing a game. You were trying to make a clever quip about the Jets state, but again I repeat: would you have said something to that effect when the Patriots escaped from their doldrums in 2001 and a tragedy befell the Kraft family?
You want to have a real discussion about life and death? This isn't the place to do it.
We talk sports here. It doesn't mean anything to anybody. If you feel that strongly about what I say that you need to pose tragic hypotheticals to try and make a counterpoint, I think that says more about you than it does about me.
