Sigh...

Yankees fans have a message for the Phillies and their hometown: This ain't Rocky, and the underdog won't win!

"The Yankees are going to make Philly cream cheese out of them," a confident Tommy Bayiokos, 44, predicted yesterday in Midtown.

"Philly fans are a bunch of whiners and should learn how to dress. They should try reading GQ."

Yup, just another reason I don't even touch the local rags anymore.

Though I would like to meet Mr. Bayiokos. I could use some fashion tips.

I know they're not, but as the team that's *not* the defending champs, wouldn't the Yankees technically be the underdog?

great excerpts, coup, but i would argue that quotes like that are exactly the reasons for picking up papers like the post. i would kill for anything approaching that kind of absurdity in the la times. i dare say you wouldn't find quotes like that in any other paper in the country.

The papers out there may not wag the pompoms like they do here, but there are plenty of sheep fans in lalaland.

i'm not arguing about the merits of any one fan base, i'm saying that the post will quote these people, and otherwise blow shit up like today's fantastic cover. whereas today's la times sports section was filled with articles about how it might be hard for the lake show to top the bulls, then usc usc usc usc usc usc usc usc usc then half a page on the world series.
there were two opinion pieces in the section, one on how the ducks suck one on ucla's qb troubles. i mean, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
no one can accuse the post of being boring. and in today's day and age that's the highest compliment you can give.
